Everest Base Camp Trek Diary – Day 2 (Kathmandu)
It felt a lot better today and didn’t feel like I wasn’t doing anything. The first surprise of the day was when I saw the rooftop restaurant of my hotel in the morning. The restaurant offered a fantastic panoramic view of the Kathmandu city. Also there were many plants on the roof with sparrows flying from one to another.
My guide, Subindra, joined me during the breakfast. We went out to make the final preparations for the trek – insurance, flight tickets, some last minute gears etc. (We met Claudio – swiss guy who speaks and writes Nepalese)
The highlight of the day was when I went for a 3 hour bike ride outside the city. I haven’t had proper exercise in a while and the uphill ride through the highway was really challenging. Made me wonder, will I be able to do the trek that’s coming my way? Anyway, on the plus side, the view from that road was amazing. You could see the whole town of Kathmandu from up there. And the downhill ride was a breeze. I think I didn’t paddle once for around 3 kilometers.
This evening was more cheerful than the last. Had dinner at a nice restaurant and packed my bag for the next day. I think I am getting more used to travelling alone.
